When I set up this web page in January of 2002, I never imagined it would become so popular - (well over 1,000,000 visitors!) I started this page (now numerous pages) because I was fed up with paying the high prices of printer cartridges.  I looked around the web and found all of these places advertising generic (or remanufactured) ink products or inexpensive inkjet refill kits.  I did a little research and found a lot of information out there.  Rather than have other people spend a lot of time and effort trying to figure this stuff out and to see if it is worthwhile, I figured I would just put the information that I collected onto a web page for everyone else to read - in one easy place.  If you have comments about any of the companies, or the processes involved, please let me know.   If you find this information helpful, I'd be happy to hear that as well!

Reviews of Inkjet Refills and Cartridge Sites on the Net

I have collected as much information as possible about each and every company I could find that sells printer related products on the internet. I have ranked them in my order of recommendation. My recommendations are based on several factors, with quality and price being the most important. Additionally, I look at the variety of products available as well as the ability to navigate the companies website. Feel free to send me additional comments about each company - I modify my rankings frequently to reflect the information I've received.

4inkjets.com (Highest Overall Rating) - last updated September 14, 2004 - Free shipping on orders over $50 (otherwise $3.95 per order) and 100% guarantee. They sell very high quality Inktec refill kits at very good prices. They also have the lowest prices for most OEM, remanufactured products, and tektronix phaser products. They are one of the largest online vendors. I have had contact with this company, and they appear very devoted to customer service and maintaining their reputation for providing high quality products. They recognize with the very high volume of products they ship, there will be a rare cartridge that is defective. They fully stand by their products. Here's a quote the CEO sent to one person who wrote me about a bad cartridge she received (the reply came within 24 hours no less): "We know this and stand by our cartridges 100%. That is why we have a 1 year 100% satisfaction guarantee on all of products. No questions are asked when a customer wants a refund or replacements. Once is a while a customer is going to be a bad cartridge and we try to make it as painless as possible."
They are offering a special promotion for Med-Psych Network visitors - this gives them the lowest prices for MANY products.
Use the following coupon codes when you check out: Med5 for 5% off orders over $35 or Med10 for 10% off orders over $55 (can NOT combine coupons). But you still get the free shipping on orders over $50. They will ship to US and Canada. Buy products at 4inkjets.com by clicking here

Usenet Message 1 - Re: Just Refilled For The First Time - Recommends 4inkjets as very good option for refills

Carrotink.com (Highest recommendation for customer service) From everything I've heard, they have the best customer service in the business. Their products are very high quality and they sell a wide selection of name brand products, generic inkjet cartridges, inkjet refills and more. Shipping usually $3.85 but currently receive Free Shipping on a $25 order o more when using links from this site. Only ship in U.S.

Usenet Message 1 - Positive Feedback for Carrotink
Usenet Message 2 - "great experience with Epson-compatible cartridge" and also better than other "clone" cartridge
Usenet Message 3 - Great prices, shipping speed, and quality as well as several others with positive comments found.

Abacus24-7 - (Best prices for canon inkjet products) I was e-mailed from someone who ordered from them and commented on the good quality and really low prices on canon products in bulk. After reading their ebay ratings (over 99.5% of people who order had a positive comment) I felt they deserve to be near the top. Since I added them, I have heard only positive things. They have a very good selection of products - OEM, generic and compatible products and some printer ink refills. They offer a 1 year guarantee. Shipping is a reasonable $4.95 - free on all orders over $99.

123inkjets.com - Save up to 75%, 90 day product guarantee. Shipping only $1.95, but often have free shipping promotions when you check their site. Sell remanufactured carts and laser printer supplies. I have heard some problems with customer service - see email message 1). They do ship to Canada ($6), but no other international orders.
Usenet Message 1 - Reports great price on Epson cartridge and first rate quality
Email Message 1 - Reports problems with backorders and getting refunds

PrintCountry.com - Founded June 2000 and sell inkjet printer refill kits, remanufactured and generic carts, OEM printer carts, laser toner products (OEM and generic / remanufactured), fax supplies, and specialty printer papers. They even sell copy machines (starting at $245). I have not been able to find too much info on the internet, but their employees seem very knowledgeable from comments they've made and people have e-mailed me directly saying their customer service is excellent. Prices are competitive, especially if you order their bulk packages. They offer fast order processing and free priority USPS shipping on orders over $45 otherwise shipping is a reasonable $4.50. They will ship to Canada and internationally. Inkjets.com - BizRate rating of 9.1 out of 10 (very good) with over 5,000 clients served.
Use coupon code 13102 when you check out and you'll save 10% on your entire order

Atlascopy.com - (Largest selection of inkjet refill kits and bulk ink) From web site: "over 20 years experience in the inkjet and Imaging Industry". They have a nice "knowledge base" and discussion board. They consistently get very high marks for customer service. Shipping is slightly pricey at $5.50. Will ship internationally. Also, several messages I found on Usenet praise this company:
Usenet Message 1 - Generics work well
Usenet Message 2 - Ink refills work well, although I did find some messages saying that Epson generics and refills are more likely to cause heads to clog. Proceed with caution if you use Epson
Usenet Message 3 - Refill works fine, but messy.

EZInkjets.com - They sell remanufactured carts at savings up to 80% over OEM. Free shipping on orders over $50, all other orders shipping $3.95. Many positive experiences reported in the past, but some people did receive leaking cartridges (which were replaced). Most people report being satisfied with the ink quality, but some people complained it was not as good as original manufacturers cartridges. They do have a 100%, no questions asked, money back guarantee, although I have received reports of some people have trouble getting thir money back. They will ship to US and Canada, but no other international orders.

Abcink.com - Offer the lowest prices for many of the compatible and remanufactured products. They have a large selection and an easy to navigate website. They offer compatible, remanufactured, OEM, laser toner cartridges, and more. They have free ground shipping on all orders over $40. They only ship to the US, but will ship for an extra fee to Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. Overall comments seem to praise the low prices, but some complaints that delivery took longer than expected. (Site added January 27, 2004 - please provide me feedback if you order from them).

Ink Blvd. - Pretty average prices for compatible and remanufactured carts, as well as laser toner carts. They offer free shipping on orders over $55. This appears to be a new company, so please send me feedback if you order from them. Get a Free Turbo Twister with any Ink order at Inkblvd.com

ABCInkjets.com - Same company as 123inkjets.com listed above, sometimes have slightly different prices / offers.
InkjetBroker - Appears to be run by the same people as 123inkjets.com, but this seems to be a newer site.
123LaserToner.com- Appears to be run by the same people as 123inkjets.com

Overnight Inkjets.com - Very impressive selection of products at competitive prices. They sell remanufactured and generic inkjet cartridges, bulk inkjet ink, refilling supplies, laser toner products, paper, and more. They have their own manufacturing plant and they ship internationally to 43 countries - the most of those I've listed. They reportedly have very fast shipping, and very reasonable shipping prices at $3.95, but free on orders over $50.

FJA Products - they have a good selection of name brand carts and laser printer supplies. Overall appear to be a decent company - mostly positive reviews, but overall not as large volume as some of the above companies. They appear to have very good prices on the name brand products. Along with cheap shipping of only $2.50 regardless of order size. They also carry a complete line of laser toners and fax films. FJA Prodcuts coupon code for free shipping: MPFREE

Ink4Art.com - Overall have mostly positive comments on the net. Their biggest weakness is shipping costs (which appear to be $5.95 per order). Not sure if they ship outside of the US. They have a HUGE variety of products, many are very cool. From their site, here's the list of some things they have: FireFly Fluorescent Ink, Epson OEM, HP, Canon, Lexmark, Compaq, Samsung, Kodak Cartridges Bulk Systems (a very interesting replacement for the HP 51645), Cleaning Carts, Archival Inks, Sublimation Inks, Waterproof Inks, Bulk Inks, Laser Toner, POS Ribbons, FAX Ribbons/Cart, Inkjet Refill Kits, Creation Kits, and more. Best of all, though, is if you use the link from this site, you can use coupon code: Crazy and save an extra 15%. My reviews of usenet groups show generally positive experiences, specifically commenting on success with their Epson cartridges, and also really liking their selections of papers. One person commented on the very cool canvas paper so that your prints will look like watercolor prints.

PacificInk.com - They sell a large selection of products from OEM products, refill kits, remanufactured cartridges, and laser toner at some of the lowest prices. People have given almost all positive comments, but a few negatives saying UPS shipping took about a week to get them etheir product. Most saying they have received their carts very quickly. Shipping is $4.95 and free on orders over $75. They will ship internationally.

InkjetUSA.com - They sell a fairly large selection of remanufactured products for inkjet printers, laser printers, and fax machines. They also offer an Inkmail program where you send them your empties and they refill them for you at a very good price. They will also pay you for your empty ink products and laser toner products. Overall, prices are fair and customer support seems fair. They do offer FREE SHIPPING on all orders, but they only ship within the US.

Inkjetvilla.com - see comments about InkjetUSA.com above - they are run by the same company. They offer free shipping on orders over $40. Prices may vary slightly from inkjetusa as well.

00inkcarts.com - (added September 28, 2003) - From their website, they report they started in California in 1996, but due to increasing size, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They claim to offer the best quailty, Made in the USA, compatible and remanufactured inkjet cartridges, as well as OEM carts for those that can't be remanufactured and generics aren't available. Shipping is a very low $1.99 and free on orders over $50. They only ship within the US - No international orders. Their prices are fairly competitive and you can save an extra 5% using coupon code: SAVE5.

Ink-Jet.com - From web site: "All of the products are warranted 100% for customer satisfaction. Our customers include major US retailers, Fortune 500 companies, schools, universities, military and international customers. Stringent quality control and integrated technology assure that you get product as good as the original manufacturer's products." FREE Shipping on all orders.
Usenet Message 1 - Positive feedback for cheap printer ink and good customer service

Mr Ink Man - Have a good selection of products and a 100% guarantee. Sell mostly remanufactured and generic compatible carts, with a very large selection. Prices are good, and they price themselves on same day shipping if order is placed before 2:30pm EST. They will ship to US, Canada, and internationally. US shipping is only $3.50 and Canada is $4.50. I have received some positive feedback that their cartridges have worked without problems.

All-Ink.com - 50%-70% OFF All Ink Cartridges. They have served a very large volume of people. Free shipping on $40 orders, otherwise $4.95. $7.95 to ship to Canada. Recently have had some reports of bad cartridges as well as poor customer support to try to reach them.

Inkjet Experts - Remanufactured inkjet carts and also carry laser toner. A nice interface that is easy to search. Prices look fairly competitive for remanufactured carts. Offer 24 hour / 7 day a week customer service. Currently offering free shipping when you buy 2 or more cartridges. Let me know if you order from them and how they are. For a limited time offering free fedex shipping on orders over $49.
Email Message 1 - Reports great experience with inkjet experts

00inkjets.com - 40-70% OFF all ink jet carts
(unable to find much info on the net)

IowaInk.com - They have a good selection of remanufactured and compatible carts. I received a detailed e-mail from someone about very bad quality Lexmark color carts (this information does not reflect my own personal experience - I am merely passing along the information that was e-mailed to me):
Email Message 1 - Reports of the problem along with a large photo comparing the remanufactured cart to an original (I've made it smaller to speed download time, but it is still around 100k in size)
Email Message 2 - Reports returning cart and being charged a high (20% from the web site) restocking fee
Email Message 3 - (Received March 7, 2003) From iowaink.com stating that all (OEM and remanufactured) lexmark carts may have problems
Email Message 4 - (Recieved October 3, 2003) From iowaink.com reporting they ultimately refunded the purchaser more than 100% of the purchase price and they are now offering a coupon code for our visitors for free shipping (Priority Mail) with purchases of $50.00 or more using coupon code: freeship
Also received the following e-mail:
Email Message: Cheapest price on HP C6615 and HP C6578

I found one message on usenet:
Usenet Message: No problems with Iowaink.com

Frequently asked questions about printer refills and cheap cartridges

What are OEM cartridges?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Usually these products are made by one company and then the manufacturer's name (such as HP, Epson, Canon, etc) is put on the product. These are the "name brand" products you find at most computer stores. They are usually expensive, but are generally of good quality.

What are remanufactured cartridges?
A remanufactured product is a used product that has been disassembled and its worn parts replaced. The print heads are tested for damange and defects. If the parts are okay, then it is refilled with ink and is tested in the factory to guarantee print quality. It is basically the recycling of an empty cartridge to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications of quality and reliability. Remanufacturing is considered more comprehensive than recharging or refilling, and is typically the cheapest alternative to refilling yourself. Your printer's print head cleaning utility (described in your printer's operating manual) should always be run 1-2 times after inserting a remanufactured product.

What are compatible or generic cartridges?
Compatible (also referred to as generic) products are made to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications of quality and reliability. Manufactured 100% brand new, with all new parts, they are an economical alternative to name-brand products.

What are inkjet refills?
Inkjet refills come in kits (or some places sell as separate supplies) that consist of ink bottles, syringes, and an air balance clip. Refilling is simply the process of injecting ink from the bottles into your existing cartridge. The air balance clip is used to balance the air inside your cartridge, assuring that ink will flow from the print head immediately upon printing. Your printer's print head cleaning utility (described in your printer's operating manual) should always be run 1-2 times after inserting a refilled product. This is definitely the most economical approach to printing, but does take some time and effort.

Will refilling my cartridge (or using remanufactured products) void the warranty on my printer?
NO! This is a common misperception. Companies have threatened in the past to void printer warranties when using refills. Legislation has since prohibited voiding warranties for this reason. For more information, search the web for the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act.
